Hottest summers

I have been reading about Leeds colest winters but what were leeds hottest summers. Apart from 1976 I also remember 1963/64 being exceptionally hot.

76 was murder, I was working at Moorfield Laundry at the time and the heat inside was bad enough but together with the humid heat from outside it was stiflingly hot hot hot.

I think 76' was the only time that the Open Air Pool at Roundhay Park got above freezing for once.

1959 was a hot summer, and of course it ended in tears with standpipes in the streets. I don't think it was quite as hot as 1976, but 1976 was exceptional - a hot summer in 1975, followed by an extremely dry winter followed by another long hot summer. It broke the second week in September - in the middle of our holiday in Llanduddno

I seem to remember, apart from 1976, that there was another really hot spell and it was in the summer of 1991. I say 1991 as I could be a year or two out.I think it was the end of July and the first two weeks in August. I remember the Yorkshire Post building at the end of Wellington street had a digital thermometer and i am sure the temperature on there was 97 deg F one day. I also was cycling at the time and when it got to the hottest days I was cycling through melted tar on the roads.For once a barbeque summer LOLCan anyone else remember this?

85 was a good year. I chose the hottest day of the year to do the Three Peaks. 91 was good I started working n an office in Dudley House (K2 I think it's called now).

1959 was a belter! Year of the "printers strike", spent quite a lot of time at the Roundhay Pool and the Blue Lagoon, both always freezing. Six weeks of heaven. '55 was a good summer too. Nothing could beat '75 & '76 though - wonderful, except for the water rationing. If I remember correctly in '76, the south of the city had water one night and the north the next, this was in addition to the standpipes.
