It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

I would find it highly unlikely that you would find any ironwork in Leeds which has come from outside the Leeds boundary.I would imagine this gulley grate is from the old Horsforth UDC,inside the old Horsforth boundary now belonging to Leeds.Possibly somewhere around Horsforth Town St.

There is certainly street furniture up here that bears the mark of Aireborough UDC. However that storm drain probably dates back to the latter part of the 19th century as, if I've read correctly, Leeds Corporation took over the area's water supply in 1901.

The Highways dept. replace these as an ongoing maintainence programme in order to comply with BS.You will note in the photo of your HUDC grate that the vents run in line with the c/way,a death trap for cyclists in some of the grates used in the past, some of these were wider than the tyres on the Racing Cycles that many still ride today.
