I finally got to take a look at a place i've wondered about for 2 years now.It really is a unique relic of British railways in years gone by.It's the garden nursey for the Yorkshire region were all the station floral displays and fruit and veg were grown for the buffet cars. It's near to York at Poppleton. The place was closed in 1995 and is now overgrown and derelict. The place even had it's own narrow gauge railway for transporting the materials around the site.My picture collection is here if anyone would like a look http://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn ... 73/detail/

There is certainly a (wo)manned hand operated crossing at Moor Monkton Believe it or not tere is still such a crossing on the ECML,at Grassthorpe, which is between Newark and Retford. Its ok as the line speed is only 125 at this point
