Progrees is slow, but this shows it is being well considered.Lets hope its an arena within walking didtance of the arena and not at Elland Road.We want visitors to bring money into th ecoffers of the city businesses and not just turn up in their cars and go home like at Sheffield.

Agreed - which is why marsh lane would seem the obvious site - it's a shame that the International Pool site isn't a bit bigger (if it must be redeveloped).

Oh yes ,Marsh Lane, theres some "digging"going on there at the moment, and of course a sign saying "Short Term Let"To me it would be quite ideal as the you can get east and west quite easily with York Road, and once the last stage of the inner ringroad is complete, north and south. Its also located adjacent to the railway, with the old platforms still in place, just a bit of tweeking and some points into a rail spur/sidings and youve got a rail connection.

SMG clearly have the pedigree to do the arena, but i wonder if there is a conflict of interests here. They run the MEN and Newcastle metro arena, would it not have been a little more prudent to have a company running our arena that will want to compete with the above two?Clearly the MEN is a huge place, and there are events it attracts that Leeds could not hope to accomadate, but the mid to large events that now take place in Manchester will be the bread and butter of the Leeds arena. How concerned will SMG be which venue gets a particular event/act?Perhaps not very much as either way they will be the beneficiary.Just a thought...

Some good points there cnosni. At the moment I have to travel to Manchester or Sheffield to see any major acts. It will be interesting to see if a company with a massive and established venue just 45 minutes away will use the new venue to complement it by attracting audiences from "this side of the hill" or not. I'll be travelling to Manchester in July to go to the MEN Arena as it's the earest venue the artiste is playing. Getting home well after midnight is a pain in the behind though. The arena at Newcastle (also owned by SMG) is little more than an hour or so away, but doesn't seem to attract anywhere near the quality or standard of acts that Manchester in particular gets. The same could be said for the Hull Arena too.Leeds and the surrounding area is a massive catchment area and I'm sure there are those who won't travel acroos the Pennines to see acts, so lets hope the appropriate effort is put in here. The press release sounds excellent, but don't they all?

I agree with your thoughts on the press release, sounds great. But if the same operator has a particular artist/event then which venue do they try and "guide" the artist/event.Answer is which ever one is the most suitable to the operator, and not the host city. This flies clearly in the face of the competition needed to attract big names to Leeds.I could, and hope to be ,wrong in this matter.

Well they are being canny, and its our money, but ive a good feeling about this arena,im sure it will happen, think of the maths for the council£28M per year (+inflation) into local economy=less unemployedmore occupied and new properties in city centre multiplied by business rates for ~ years =£££££££££££££££££££££For me,well going into town, and going to a gig like i did 20 years ago,but not having to fork out for a hotel room, long train journey home or a sober night driving.
