Cryer really doesn't get the credit he deserves.Not only is a he funny in person, he's also written for some of the best comdians, and for some of the funniest shows over the last forty years.

As I'm sure you know, Fevlad, he's also a mainstay of "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue," Radio 4's antedote to panel games and the funniest programme on radio.

He and Graham Garden's Scotsmen always creases me "ye'll have had yer teee" apparently being what folks in Edinburgh say to unwelcome visitors!There was a programme on the other day about Morecambe and Wise and apparently a lot of their material was written by Barry. Most of David Frost's witty ad libs came from Barry too. A very clever man.

There was a good hour long interview with him by Mark Lawson on BBC4 last week. Bound to get repeated as everything on BBC4 is. He chatted about his early days in Leeds.

I'm disappointed. I thought this was a thread about Billy Pearce. Only joking. Barry Cryer is one of the most erudite men of stage, radio, and screen. I seem to recall a programme he hosted in the early 70s. I think it was "Jokers Wild"

Barry Cryer was indeed the presenter on Jokers Wild. I saw a clip recently and everyone was smoking! Seemed weird.Cryer is one of those entertainers that seem to have been born at the age of 50 and stayed at that age ever since. Sid James was another.

Although Eddie Braben wrote most of Morecambe & Wise's stuff, Barry Cryer was also a huge contributor. Much of the "off the cuff" smart remarks David Frost used to make were also thought up by Cryer. All Frankie Howerd's stuff was by Cryer. His Dougle and Angus routine with Graham Garden on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue always creases me. A very funny man indeed - he was on Radio 4 last Wednesday too.
