A single instance of poor cycling does not mean there is a epidemic of people behaving like that.So as not to divert the thread, which is about the Tour de France, can I suggest we use the other secret leeds cycling thread if you wish to discuss further.Tour News!Apparently there is some sort of event being filmed tues/wed/thurs in the Arena, I can't make it myself but if any cyclist (you'll need your bike!) can I'm happy to share back the details - its been on Facebook this weekend so its possible you may already have been asked.More Tour News!I've been recommended The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge as a good spot, going to try and get there I think on the second day.

There's now a huge inflatable cycle in City Square and a certain horseman now has a jersey on (picture uploading is too difficult for me at present). Did I misread or was it mentioned that "Le Tour" will be going through Calverley? If so I may have to use it as an excuse to take a walk there.

I'd say the nearest it will get to Calverley on Saturday is crossing the bottom of Calverley Street. It then heads out on the A61 to the bottom of Harewood bank where it diverts up the Wharfe Valley through Poole and Otley on through Ilkley to Skipton before heading north on a big loop of the Dales ending back in Harrogate. Sunday will be even further afield from Calverley. Starting in York it heads West to Silsden through Harrogate and then heads south to Keighley before a first brush with the Pennines via Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Littleborough and then dropping in to the west of Huddersfield. It then heads out for the second brush with the Pennines up Holme Moss via Holmfirth before descending into Sheffield

Its to allow the riders to warm up and avoid massive jockeying for position in confined space with plenty of street furniture (e.g. Headrow between Park Row/Cookridge Street and Briggate.I'd estimate the racing starts just beyond Alwoodely. As I understand it, the racing proper starts from Harewood.

I saw mention of Calverley and thought it could be an excuse to take a walk there. As it is I'm not sure whether there's anywhere in easy walking distance for me to see it. The talk of Silsden reminds me of a YouTube video "Tour De Cobbydale" which is probably unsuitable for a younger audience but I did find it amusing and it was strangely prescient.

In view of the mentions of Calverley I thought I would post this photo (taken June 27 2014) of 'The White Route' phone booth in City Square. The route shows it going from Calverley to Woodlesford via the central area of Leeds.

There is also a pop up souvenir shop near Mill Hill Chapel, the presence of which, and the added police presence leading to a marked absence of the usual beggars on the nearby corner!
