Going back to the Laurel and Hardy story appearing in Leeds, they did a nationwide tour in the early 50's and appeared at the Majestic Cinema, they stood on the Balcony above the main entrance to a packed City square, I've got details of this in a book somewhere but cant remember which one.

According to the little bit of research I've done, Laurel & Hardy appeared on three separate occasions in Leeds, the first time in 1932 when they appeared at the Majestic in City Square. They appeared twice at the Leeds Empire, once in 1952 (when it was I saw them) and in 1954. They stayed at the Queens Hotel on all three occasions.

Wasn't it His Nephew Eli woods who played that part?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eli_WoodsEdit to post This link suggests Hutton Conyers played the part Roy Castle did at a later date Eli Woods was His second Stooge.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_James_(comedian)

The Queens was the only place in Leeds in that era for anyone ofany sort of fame to stay.My late Dad had kept an autograph book and collected lots of famous signitures.People like hotel staff who deal with the 'real person'know more thanfans or members of the public ever will.e.g. Norman Wisdom NEVER tipped.
