It was when the new Bond Street Centre was being built and I'm not sure if it was a temporary arrangement but it was down an alley at the side of Maples furniture shop, on the right of Albion Street just below the junction with Bond Street/Commercial Street. Only went once on a works night out as part of a club crawl but I seem to remember it was a very weird place with a doorman who was about 8 feet tall with hands like shovels. Very strange night out as I recall but I would be grateful if anyone could remind me what the place was called. That sounds like the Lido Review Bar. The Bouncer was Big Jim Moran. Spent many a happy night there.

Tall guy with a scarred face (we were told that he had been badly cut helping a cop who was being attacked). He was a nice chap (no hard man rubbish) and well respected by the punters. Aye that's Tony. He's mentioned on a few threads on here if you do a search.

Thanks very much Doubledave!! The Lido Review Bar was it. The poor old brain can stop wrestling with that one now! Re. the doorman - in spite of seeming to be so intimidating he came across as being a gentleman. As for the Lido, as I said, I only went once, but the experience certainly added to my education!

"We are the Gall-er-ee, we're all on XTC". By the way the Gallery was originally The Coconut Grove. It was a restaraunt cum Jazz Club(nice!!).George Melly and Ronnie Scott played there, Ricky's was the club downstairs.

That's a weird thing to remember, but I think it still did that in the mid-80s. I've only been in the Poly SU bar once to my recollection (think it might have been to see James just before they got famous) and yes, someone put 'Silver Machine' on, it got stuck and there were a bunch of people kicking at the jukebox and trying to dislodge it

Hi everyone new guy here. I'm particularly interested in geoffb's comment " Cats Whiskers at Meanwood, always a good rowdy friday night in there, the resident band were the Whales". I wondered if you had any stories or information about The Whales that we could put on our web site. The Whales page is http://www.rollbacktheyears.co.uk/whales.htmbest regards to everyone Pete Bradley

And that other one on the first floor of a building on East Parade? And what about Charlie Williams place in Armley? Or, the one in Seacroft at the Hotel on the York Rd roundabout?Shouldn't this thread be labelled where was the best place to pick up? I think the club on Lower Briggate was called Belinda's which was there in the late70's

Foxes, what a top place that was, spent many a night arguing with Bernard on the door, how about The Chained Bull or The Stables. There was The Pheonix in Chapletown and Studio one at the bottom of North Street, the only place i new that would serve a pint in 2 plastic half glasses, the idea, I was told, was to occupy both hands to make you think twice about throwing a punch, classy place. There was also Digby's next to Len's bar. Oh happy days. I remember Foxes very well. We would go there nearly every weekend in the late 70's early 80's Remember the chicken in a basket meals!!
