Hi Bob. Type my first and last names with a dot between them and @virgin.net and you're there. Let me have yours too please.Just bought myself a gleaming new Yamaha 650 pro-standard clarinet and Vandoren 5JB jazz mouthpiece because I could think of nothing better to spend my money on in my dotage. Am now nearly as loud and vibrant as brass and practicing my arpeggios and appoggiaturas in every major and minor scale several hours a day in the hope in a year or so of getting my improvisation skills a bit beyond the 12-bar blues and their variants in easy keys that used to be pretty much my limit in the 1960s. Almost cracked Cakewalking Babies in Ab now!Have also just discovered that the very best thing you can do with a smart phone is not waste your time talking to people or texting or e-mailing or web browsing on it but load its memory card with Johnny Dodds, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morten, New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Louis Armstrong's Hot Five and Seven etc, and spend blissful hours listening to them through the earpiece wherever you are while pretending to be busy on the phone. Why would anyone with a smart phone want to buy an MP3 or an iPod?

All you old Jazzbos should check out Leodis-Latest Additions.Terry Cryer has posted some incredible photos of Leeds Jazz in the 50s. Who should feature on two of them but the Mighty Ed O'D along with Martin Boland 1954 and with another team in 1955.Does anyone know if I would breech any copyright rules if I copied these shots from Leodis and posted them to SL ?Cheers

Hello there folks!I have been following this thread for quite a time now and feel I can contribute a bit more info on Ed O'Donnell.I'm a clarinet player (and saxophones too . . . but Ed don't like 'em, so I don't play them with him) still playing around Leeds. I was with the Al Crossland Band, and am still in touch with Al and John Beecroft.Currently, I'm Ed's clarinet player and have been with him now since 2007-8ish.Our next gig in 14 February (1 day after Ed's next birthday) at Bingley Conservative Club - starting at 8:30.Current band is Ed, Arthur Stead trumpet, me clarinet, Annie Hawkins bass, Pete Cridland drums and sometimes Jim Wright banjo.Looking forward to sharing a few 'yarns' with former mates.Tony

Hi Tony. Great to keep seeing new life breathed into this thread. Did you replace me (David Cockerham) in Al Crossland's band when I moved down to London in 1962? Give my regards to Al and to John Beecroft. I must owe John at least 500 fags. I was a penniless schoolboy and John was a generous up-and-coming banker, so I was was forever cadging them off him. He'll never get them back now - I gave them up in 1981!

Hello DaveYes, it was you I replaced. Al eventually went on to become a promoter and some-time cabaret act. He's well retired now but his 'local' is 'The Three Hullets' - used to be the 'Mexborough' up Chapeltown Road. He drinks there with Dave Lewis who is also still very active with Ros, his wife. I play with them next Wednesday at Cullingworth Conservative Club.John B and I often have a 'blow' in my office at home, using Band-In-A-Box to supply the backing. It's a useful way to practice I find. John is also still playing for the odd brass band and a local group in Kippax where he lives.I will pass on your comments and best wishes to as many of those who are still around . . . Neddy Websdale is still tooting a bit - when he can get a gig. Also, Bernie Wild, who I gigged with at the end of November.CheersTony

Howzit TonySay hello to Al and John Beacroft for me. Tell John I eventually bought the CD of 'Jazz on a summers day' when we were in America last. He may remember that he and Homer and myself went to watch the film at some underground cinema near the Queens hotel around 1960. We raved over Anita O'Day's classic renditions of 'Sweet Georgia Brown' and 'Tea for Two'. And Dave Lewis, what can I say. We go back a long way. Ask him if he's forgiven me for turning up late at the Cherry Tree that Sunday when I tried to get in a semi final playing for Belle Isle WMC. We had to play the game at Halton, kick off at 10.30. Ever the optimist, I thought I could get the game in and still make the Cherry Tree for 12.00. Actually I hadn't a hope in hell. I arrived, I seem to remember, at 12.45 with mud all over my face to be confronted by Dave in the middle of the pub lounge with fumes coming out of his ears. Happy days. Jazzbob
