Any chance that someone can locate Gills Yard (around 1851 census),close to 19 Kirkgate,on an old map please.Cheers PS also looking out for teh property next to 127 Kirkgate in the 1861 census for the same people who are in Gills Yard in the 1851 census.

The Godfrey 1847 OS reprint shows Gills Yard behind (or more accurately on the site now occupied by the rear of) the building now belonging to Darbar/Pose, more or less opposite the junction of Kirkgate with Central Road. You could also regard it as being the next yard but one behind the General Elliott, but slightly further north. If that doesn't confuse you nothing will!

Gill's Yard, marked in red, on the 1847 map, overlain on a 2002 shot of Google Earth. Later shots seem to be taken in the early evening and don't have the light. It was reached from Kirkgate by a covered alley.
