Searching my wifes family history, we have discovered that her grandfather lived in Canvas Street in south Leeds, but we can't find any reference to where the street was.We now live in Penzance so it's not easy for us to conduct any research in Leeds. We found the reference to Canvas Street in the Leeds Central library when we were up last week, but we ran out of time.... so any information would be appreciated.

Hi Penz,I've had a look at the 1908 map of south Leeds, but can't find a Canvas Street. However, in the Bank area there's a series of streets called Cotton, Wool, Worsted, Silk, Leather Street, etc. It may have been around there?I'll have another look later (the maps don't have a street directory, so you just have to peer at the tiny lettering til you find it!)Cheers,Si.

Thanks for that. The listings we saw were in the electoral register for the years 1914 to 1923. We were short of time and I thought I'd be able to follow it up when I got home ... but no such luck.

Are you the bloke who paints the road markings? Or the bloke who pastes up the ADS?An authority of Leeds streets, past and present, will be a valuable asset to this site!
