Perhaps you should duplicate this thread under the Family History section.Leeds wills would have been placed in one of two places, under the auspices of York or Canterbury, mainly under that of York.Heres a link to the Borthwick institute in York, regarding Probate Records and Wills for York, however ther is no searchable data base online.http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/bihr/guidele ... nd.pdfThis is a link to British Origins which has the Index fro Wills held at the Borthwick institute in York, unfortunately its not free to searchhttp://www.britishorigins.com/You will however have to order the will from the Borthwick,so its a bit of a bind, however the wills for Canterbury are much easier to search and order (typocal southerners, get all the perks!)This is a link to the National Archives at Kew,this is a bit of info about what you can be looking for ,regards wills proved at Canterbury.http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/docu ... aspLuckily this link enables you to search (free of charge) the database of wills for Canterbury,so put in the relevant details and if theyve got it you can down load the will for £3.50,not bad really.Though the majority of Northern wills wee proved at York, there are SOME proved at Canterbury,so its worth searching Canterbury wills first, free of charge, and then at least you know that any wills are not there. Then you can,if necessary, look at York and start shelling out your hard earned readies.Dont forget though, therer may be NO will at all. Please take time to read the info on both these sites,it gives a good insight in to how wills were administered, and will save you going round the houses on a wild goose chase.
