Ha Ha, Nice one Lilysmum. Does anyone remember when the local photographer would come round to the house and you had to sit with your siblings, in your best shirts, hair slicked down for the black and white photo, which was developed and delivered about a week later. They always had a rubber ink stamp on the back of the photo with the name and address of the photographer on them. You don't see them any more. You don't see Rabbits with fur on hanging outside butchers shops anymore, there was a butcher down Branch Road in Armley not far from Mikes carpets who always hung Rabbits outside on hooks.I remember watching my mates mum skin and gut a Rabbit, it stunk. Her mum didn't give a monkeys, she was so used to doing it.Does anyone still do home made Indian Ink tattoos? Or pierce their ears with a sewing needle and ice cube. Ouch!I sometimes think that on this website there are the aficionados, the people who really have a lot of knowledge and then there are those who like me, are reminiscencers. (I don't even know if that is a word) It would be good therapy for those with Alzheimer's. I am amazed by the knowledge and research carried out by some contributors, I really tip my hat to you all.

I remember those days when rabbits were hung up outside butchers shops and my Mum buying a chicKen for our Xmas Dinner(we couldn't afford a turkey). THE CHICKEN WOULD HAVE ITS FEATHERS ON AND SHE WOULD GO DOWN THE CELLAR AND PLUCK IT. FEATHERS FLYING ALL OVER! She would cook it on Xmas day in the York Range oven. One year she got a chicken from Groves butchers down Armley Rd nr the Oak pub and it was full of partly formed eggs! Not very pleasant when we were having our Xmas dinner!

That free magazine that was available from many newsagents in the city centre, funded by an American billionaire(?), who was anxious to ensure that his point of view was put to as wide an audience as possible.I can't remember the name of it, but I can remember picking it up a few times from the newsagent at the "red" bus station (Vicar Lane) to while away the wait for a bus. Mid to late 80's maybe?I suppose that the internet would have seen it off by now even if he's still about.

Being admittedly of a bit of a squeamish nature, I think that would have been the end of my Xmas dinner for that year !!
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I remember as a child and even when my eldest who's now 32 was a baby there were no end of dogs roaming the streets and many were nasty and in packs. One large nasty dog in particular would always mount your back....not pleasant
