Leeds in the 1870s

Hi Dakota - Been round the cemetery again today,it seems to grow bigger each time I pass through the gate.Good news first,have relocated Jane'sgrave and have photographs close up and full view.Sadly - there are no signs of George and Ernests resting place.Very few of the graves are numbered,I took my bearings from th nearest number I could find,usual surroundings were now levelled grass or missing/damaged headstones.William is proving a little tricky,we seem to have moved from an area wih few markings to graves with no marking,will have to ask around and see if anyone can point me in the right direction.You have to remember this is a very old cemetery and time has sadlytaken its toll in places.The large common grave headstones are so close together you cannot put a fist between them.Have about 20 photos from today so I will try and post them somewere with descriptions.Take care.

Hi dogduke, If you pass that way again and can locate my family grave mentioned in the earlier post I'd be very gratefull.This could be a new career for you

Some good stuff going down here on this threadChris you never cease to amaze me.If carlsberg did Family history theyd probably call it CNOSNI lol

O.K,still looking for the outstanding gravefor Dakota,19077 sounds like a big number though,I'amonly trained for the low thousands.

Brandy wrote: Some good stuff going down here on this threadChris you never cease to amaze me.If carlsberg did Family history theyd probably call it CNOSNI lol Cant take much credit as the details are on a cdrom ,compiled by the Leeds Indexers and contributed to by many other Leeds based groups,of which the Friends of Beckett Street Cemetery are one.Its a matter of knowing where and what to look for.Personally i find that burials are probably one of the most underrated parts of FH,many people researching their trees seem to completely ignore them,which means that individuals in their trees arent necessarily the corect ones.

Ok,hopefully there is a picture attaced.If you go to the junction of Stanley Walk and Barran Row,waking in the direction of Stoney Rock Lane,then after about 20 rows on yor right you should be in the vicinty of 19060.19060 (if it still exists)should be immediately adjacent to what is left of Stanley Walk.19077 should be about 17 graves in from 19060
