was wondering if someone could give me an outsiders point of view on a matter i have with a family member who's helping me with my family tree. I have a Sarah Broadbelt b1827 abbt Holbeck, married a George Peaker b1827 Crigglestone, dec 1852. on the 1861 census i have them Domestic Street, Holbeck. we have both got different idea's on the Sarah Broadbelt Parents, i have her, with her Father James BroadBENT. from the 1851 census although it says Hunslet she was born. my family member has her parents as Johnathon and Mary BroadBELT, this been sought by FreeBMD and Familysearch.org.... but this comes up with a Sarah Broadbelt, Christening 30 april 1823 Adel. and also the 1851 census has this part backed up. 4/5 years difference and the Area Holbeck/Adel too far apart But we cannot find anything else to concreat our findings. i have found others on a Sarah BroadBENT this been my finding because her son is listed as David Broadbelt Peaker B1855. holbeck but on his marriage index it has David BroadBENT Peaker. also i have found a 4th cousin, by connecting tree's and have been in contact with them and they have the same findings , plus thinking the mis spelt name.some outside of my family views/help on the matter would be greatly appriciated.thankyou

Hi weenie.I would go with BROADBENT as it is quite a common name in this region.I have never come aross Broadbelt , so although it should be wonderful to have a rare name to track down , I would think a census taker misheard it.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Can I just say that if you go to the Registry Office in Leeds now, if you want any certificate for family history and you want it on the day it will cost you £15, not the £7 we are all used to paying there, apparently there are too many people coming in for family history purposes and "insufficient resources" according to the person I spoke to there. If you order by telephone or write in, still costs you £7 but if you go there on the day, its £15.

If you order by telephone or write in, still costs you £7 but if you go there on the day, its £15. that is a ridiculous amount. They are simply cashing in,if anything they are discriminating against FH researchers.People doing FH tend to have ordered certificates more than once and are able fill out the forms correctly, far more so than the once in a blue moon attendee to the reg office wanting a duplicate/replacement certificate.you always get the impression that Family Historians are treated begrudgingly,as if they are some sort of hinderance to their daily (not very hard) work load, sort like how train spotters and even passengers are treated on the railway. You also get some people that work in record officesthat you come across those who seem to take umbridge at actually having to do their chosen vocation. All this will do is mean that Family historians will catch on and order through the GRO online for £7.50.These tend to be better quality copies, usually with original writing and signatures etc, rather than the typed out one that 8 times out of 10 you get at Leeds Registry office.Eventually they wont need the Registry office counter etc,it will be all done online or by phone,so there will be staff no ,longer needed. You dont turn customers away, and we are after all their customers.
