Good list Arry.Do you see 2 stroke bikes anymore?I owned a 2 stroke,a JAWA,it burnt a mixture of petrol and oil and I mean BURNT,I left a trail of blue smoke everywhere I went.My uncle owned a Jowett Javelin. The Bradford factory closed when Fords bought out their chassis manufacturer thus cutting off supply.

Hi StevieThere are not many 2 stroke bikes anymore, but you do see (or rather hear - bumblebee in a tin can) the odd scooter. Jawa was a Czech firm more famous for their 4 stroke speedway engines. The Jowett Javelin was the first all-new designed British car built after the war. After they went bust, a Mr Subaru from Japan bought all their engine blueprints, and, as they say, the rest is history. The Javelin and Impreza share the same engine layout to this day (flat four.)

Hi Si,It wasn't the best bike I ever owned, the gear lever doubled as the kick start and it was quite high up,I was on tip toes.It had an old fashioned carburettor that required 'Tickling' (honest!)I had a good look round a 'Javelin' a few years ago.Kirkstall Festival used to have a parade of vintage and veteran cars.Something they no longer do for some reason...(Something you don't see anymore)

It was raced at Le Mans with some success, I believe.

Scott,Villiers(old British bikes)CZ,MZ, Even Suzuki made a 750cc 2 stroke, water cooled, nick named 'The Kettle' and proberbly the best engineered 2 stroke ever, the Yamaha 350 ypvs.Kawasaki and Honda have both dabbled with 2 strokes. It seems they're going the way of the steam engine.
