Anyway here's something we grew up with: Doris Day, bless. If Mrs J sees me gazing at her image I point out that "She has a look of you love"..

BBC4 had an evening of Doris Day some time back which I watched for old times sake. She was being interviewed and I was thinking it was old footage because she's now in her 80's and I was thinking, "no way is she in her 80's here" but no, it was a recent interview and she looked absolutely fantastic. Still slim and beautiful and she still has a lovely voice. Some women have all the good genes...........GRRRR!!

Pull cords above the bed for bedroom lights.Appliances with a plug that you connected to the light socket. I can remember my gran removing the lightbulb and connecting the vac.

Stone hot water bottles (being in use and just not "collected") and a bath in the kitchen with a big board over it so it could be used for storage when not in use and meat safes'.

Playing with hot tar in summer. It had a very limited potential really but it kept out in the 'fresh' air.A bit like making mud pies and damming streams.I'm convinced all the muck we played with had a beneficial effect in the long run, health wise. I'm unsure if it is one of the 'Things you don't see anymore' but I never see mention of paying for things COD (Cash On Delivery), with the possible exception of paying mail order catalogue agents (are there such as Kays, Littlewoods etc home run catalogue agents now?). If COD has died then perhaps having to pre-pay by credit/debit cards for purchases is the cause. I tried a seach of SL for COD but only seemed to find mentions of the fish!
