The Water man checking your water (No wiggy not YOUR water works - listening for underground leaks at all the stoptaps outside your house!). I saw a man doing this a couple of days ago!I was actually searching for anything about Shadwell Approved School and this thread is listed but far too long to wade through! Does anyone know anything about the place? My late father was sent there in the 30's/40' for playing truant!

Hi grumpbloke and weenie. This link may be of some help. It would seem there are some records at the West Yorkshire Archive Service in Leeds. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/ ... pe=ARCHIVE

Nightwatchmen with braziers - be careful with the pronunciation!!!
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, moves on; nor all thy Piety nor all thy Wit can call it back to cancel half a Line, nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

Thankyou Leodian, I have tried that before unfortunatly its after when my ancestor was there, he was there in 1880's I would love to know why he was admitted or what was written on his admittance papers - his father was very elusive/bigamist murderer !!!it did give me some info though on place, that reminded me of the Grey and Blue Schools. in York.
