Family History Monthly include on the free cover CD this month ,a copy of a 1900 map of Leeds. It is not as detailed as an OS map, but is one I hadn't seen before and covers quite a wide area of Leeds.Worth seeking out.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!

Sticky wicket there mate, thers no register of Bigamist marriages im afraid.Only a dilligent sense of research will come up with the answer.I suspect that this will cost you some money initially if you wish to follow it through.Have a good think about what you want to find out,do you wish to trace your fathers family, your mothers or both?whatever tou want to know then start with yourself, get a copy of your full birth certificate. Then get a copy of your parents marriage certificate.Just to put a little perspective in for you,it doesnt matter if your father was a bigamist,it matters that he was your father. His family is yours. We are here to help.

2 of my grt grt grt uncles were arsonists in the 1840s. No-one was killed by them but it was a capital offence. One turned Queen's Evidence on t'other, and was sentenced to death. Two days before the scheduled hanging at York Castle, his death sentence was commuted to transportation for lfie and he ended up at Norfolk Island, supposedly the worst place on earth!

I'm trying to find out about my grandfather, Edgar Dunwell. He lived at 2 Weston St Wortley. And at 23 Wolley Avenue, N Farnley.Weston Street doesn't seem to be on the map. Was it redeveloped? His son, my father, was baptised at St James Chapel, Farnley in 1916Apparently he was a porcelain enameller, although he worked at some stage at Farnley Iron Works. He also played the violin at the Majestic Cinema, City Square, Leeds. The family later moved to Otley and in about 1930, Edgar moved out (perhaps back to Farnley area ?)Any thoughts , please? All BestJack
