I'll not forget that night in a hurry Phill - my mate and I had been in "The Original Oak" and we parted company at North Lane lights - I walked home down North Lane and he walked past KFC to his Shaw Lane bus stop - at about the time that the poor lass was being done in behind the Arndale near Alma Road.

I've only ever had two, one in Wakey and one in Llanduddno, they were both exactly as you describe.Proper Southern Fried Chicken is not deep fried. It's chicken fillets coated in flour seasoned with chilli and then shallow fried. Cooked properly it's very nice.

Dont forget Cross Gates, Colton, The one near the Showcase, and the one on Stonegate Road near Aldi at Meanwood - used to be Burger King. I dont suppose they are that bad an eating establishment, but I always wonder what low grade c rap chicken they must use. Yorkshire Fried Chcken - what a joke £2 for about 8-10 chicken wings? Now I know that must be grade Z meat!

As far as I can remember, the quality and flavour of the chicken was excellent and consistent in the original days when it was Colonel Sanders "Finger lickin' good." More recently I began to find that the chicken was often wet, undercooked and varied vastly in size of pieces. I haven't had any for ages and don't feel inclined to any more.

For the record, I'm aware that there are KFC's dotted around the suburbs of Leeds and int he White Rose. It doesn't explain the lack of one in Leeds town centre, nor does the fact that it's a franchise and anyone could have a go. I know this. It's the fact that they haven't which is strange as they HAVE everywhere else int he western world. You used to be able to get "maryland" chicken in game row, use dto have it a as a treat on saturday shopping trips in the 70's. It was breadcrumbed fried drumsticks and was really tasty. There is a fried chicken place on New Briggate but it's, I think, the Dixie FC one.I once heard a comedian claim that he'd discovered the Colonel's secret blend of herbs and spices, it was fat and salt.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.
