This is a great site but I cant get any work done after reading all the threads. The humour has me in stitches particularly from blokes like Sir Harold Hawk.CheersAndy The chippie you mention is now a chinese takeaway and has been for quite a few years now. There is one chippie not to far away from there, over the ring road. As you go up the hill on Lower Wortley Rd and turn left into Granny Lane there is a real small chippie on the left. Not been in for a year or so, but last time I did they were fantastic.Oh, and sir Harold of Hawk is not what you would think either. He has a script writer and sits in the public library most days drinking white lightening. I'm struggling to think which shop would have been the chippy and is a Chinese now near the Gamecock? Which side is is on, the laundrette side or the post office side?I assume Frionor is still going strong on the juntion of the Ring Road and Tong Road? Pashy was on about the F+C shop on the left hand side of Hennconner lane on the junction with pudsey Rd, so on neither of the row of shops you mention, it's a few yards from the Total garage, right on the roundabout. My reference to the chinese takeaway, that used to be a F+C shop is a mile or so along the ring Rd, near Ringways garage! Hope that helps? Yes!! I know where you mean, I'd forgotten all about that one. My mate Phil Carrick used to live over the road from that chippy.

Ebor Fisheries in Lofthouse. It's still there but has no tbneen open for 20 years or so. Very small one room shack which specialised in smaller portions but was dead cheap. Any Rodillian School pupil will know how good they were. The land must be worth a few bob today as it stands in a good sized plot.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

There have been a rich seam of chippies on Low Lane,Horsforthalthough not concurrantly.Starting from the Bridge heading in the direction of the ringroad, the row of stone houses on the right had a chippy until fairly recently. On the left, many years ago,a F&C shop owned(so I understood)by the parents of John Holmes(no,not the legendary swordsman but the Leeds and GB Rugby League player)Across the ringroad, roughly opposite the large white office building, there was a chippy owned by one of the regulars in the Stanhope.

I can't believe Nash's has shut down! I'm not even sure that it has, that place was firmly established in Leeds social / cuisine history. When I was young my mum used to take me an my sister there for birthdays and special occasions, on other occasions we'd go to some other fish and chip resteraunts that were upstairs on Briggate, I think one was where Harvey Nicks 1st floor is now maybe, they werent exactly first class dining but the grub was lovely and I think you got a jelly with some kind of fake cream on it for like a pudding afterwards! Its sad to see our national dish go this way, unfortunately a series of operators who do badly done fish and chips along with the full range of doner kebabs, burgers, pizzas and curries have put a lot of people off. Then again there is always Bryans of Headingley who do a quality job of it! Mmmm, Friday today - Fish and Chips for tea I think!
Have your fun when you're alive - you won't get nothing when you die... have a good time all the time! - Chumbawumba!

And no matter how things end, you should always keep in touch with your friends - Dave Gedge

" The Ship " I think it was named on Harehills Lane near the site of the old Brownhill School . It had a wooden model of a galleon in the window . Last time I was around it was still there run by the son and daughter-in-law of the former owner .We called it " Antonio's " after the fish and chip shop from which Alf Tupper " the tough of the track " bought his meals .     There was one on Harehills Road called Le Galleon, just above Banstead Park.Don't know if it's still there. Also further up Roundhay Road near the Oakwood clock was a F&C shop with a very distinctive frontage."Alf Tupper" now there's an old school hero! Trained on fish'n'chips or pie'n'peas, spent all night welding before winning gold in the'mile'beating the German into second place. Le Galleons is no longer there. It is a indian take away now. Lovely fish & chips from there, my mum & dad would not go any were else.
