These have just been put on Ancestry. You normally need a subscription to view, but sometimes they have "free days". The following is from the site:
In this database, you’ll find registers of alehouse licences issued in the West Yorkshire area. Many registers contain the name of the person who held the licence, the name and location of the public house, dates the licence was issued and renewed, and whether the licence was transferred. There are also registers of licence infraction and beerhouse licences.
Not all registers contain all information.
The sources are given as:
Ancestry.com. West Yorkshire, England, Alehouse Licences, 1771-1962 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014. This collection was indexed by Ancestry World Archives Project contributors.

Hoorah!
At lest its a start.
I'll be interested to see when they get around to the City of Leeds records.
For one thing I'll be able to use the photo's of the Licensing Registers that I took [several thousand] but which, at the moment, copyright prevent me from using. As soon as Ancestry publish their copies, West Yorkshire Archive Service can kiss their copyright goodbye and I'll be posting mine all over the place.
I'll also be interested to see if they turn up the missing register that covers PH's from 50/51 to 1964. WYAS say that the Courts Service still have it, the office of the Clerk to the Justices says that it was deposited with WYAS some time in the 1980.

Thanks for the info chemimike. I have been able to find my ex wife's great uncle at The Swan at Rothwell between 1940 & 1947.

My son went to see a "medium" 20 years ago who told him that a relative was the landlord of The Swan in the past. It makes you wonder sometimes ???
