There's a list of closed pubs at http://www.closedpubs.co.uk/yorkshire/leeds.html and for ones that are still open it's easiest just to look on Google Maps.

Get a copy of the Godfrey map for that area it will help loads. Museum shop or waterstones sell them.

Hi Zoe. I think the three nearest pubs would have been The Cattle Market, at the other side of Gelderd Road to the Oswalds, and the Smythe's Arms and the Druid's (?) Head, both at the then junction of Gelderd Road with Holbeck Lane/Copley Hill. Question mark against "Druid's" as the map is none too clear. The Smythe's was still open in comparatively recent times, as I went in a few times to hear live music. The Oswalds were on the south side of Gelderd Road between the Whitehall Road roundabout and the bridge that once carried the Leeds - Huddersfield railway.

It was the Druids Head. There was also the 'Skew Bridge' nearby. I also remember the 'Smyths' and had a few pints in there but all these pubs are demolished now.
