SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

The Yorkshire Dalesman of January 2012 has a report on pages 81 and 82 about the Whitelock's. It is a short but interesting history piece.

The Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) has a report on page 3 of today's issue (Jan 8 2015) about Whitelocks titled 'Historic pub to celebrate 300 years of pulling pints'. In the report it states "...Whitelock's is one of the oldest pubs in Leeds" and "...2015 is the 300th anniversary, but no one seems sure of the exact date".

In view of the "one of the oldest pubs in Leeds" I wonder which is (or is accepted to be) the oldest pub in Leeds?

PS. There seems to be some confusion in the report as to the name as it is given as Whitelock's and as Whitelocks.

The Bingley Arms at Bardsey, LS17, is said to be perhaps the oldest pub in the country at over 1000 years.

The Bingley Arms isn't as old as it makes out.There was a well on the hillside above the preset pub the water of which was used for brewing by a brewer where reference was made to them being on the site.The pub was built later to accomodate increased trade.It is an old pub of course.
