thanks for the photos of the 2 pubs i was asking about,it brings back a lot of old memories of that area when i worked in springwell road in the 1960s.on a side note i wish the volunteer pub building had not been pulled down it was legal vandalism.

Walked by the Highland on Rutland Street in Leeds the other day and noticed is closed up. Is this the case, does any one know? Was only a couple of months ago I was having a drink in there.

Hi snowman is the Volunteer the pub that was at the bottom of Domestic Street if so i wonder what happened to all the stained glass windows.

Hi iansmithofotley If the Volunteer is the pub im thinking of it had leaded windows with different soldiers in different uniforms around the bottom windows.I was way too young to drink then but i went to a picture house just up from it cant recall the name of it but it was opposite what is now Salford Van Hire.

Wouldn't be the Gainsborough by any chance?

You could be right Fred its so long ago i think im loosing it we used to go to another one near Holbeck Moor it was a bank at one time. Im going back to the fiftys its no wonder i find it hard to remember My local cinema was the Strand on Jack Lane i must remember that i am going of topic.

I know where it is but a bit before my time Jack Lane, used to go to the Queens the Palace also the Regal down Hunslet Road.and the Malvern Beeston.
