i was brought up in drighlington , in the 60 /70s , we lived at one point in a large house that was demolished for construction of the motorway [that never happened ]. i have recently been informed that my home was once a public house , named THE BUTTERBOWL [ BUTTER BOWL ?] . It was situated on a street known as Bradford road , which is now parallel, to the A650 . I have looked through this site & leodis websites but cant find any information, or pictures . when it was a public house or home , could it have had another name ? does anyone remeber it or maybe have any piccies please ? id be most grateful for any information or leads [no pun intended ]many thanks - j.scadden

the 'Butterbowl' is a highly unusual pub name - I wouldn't be surprised if the pub on the Farnley estate (a modern pub , relatively speaking) was not uniquely named. - 'Punch Bowl' is far more likely.The best bet would probably be old directories - do you know the address of this property?

There is no pub with that or a similar name listed in Drighlington or Adwalton in 1838, 1853 or 1927

(formerly the A650) is either Wakefield Road or King Street, I don't think there is a Bradford Road in King Street.The Spotted Cow on Whitehall Road Drigh used to be famous for having a talking dog. I never heard it talk though.

To be fair Trojan the A650 is the Wakefield Road or the Bradford Road in the main between the two cities.

But the actual name of the road is Wakefield Road - I used to work for a business based on Wakefield Road, Drighlington BTW back in the sixties Drigh had its own telephone exchange it was 830 from Leeds - 9830 from Morley.

ive since been able to find my birth certificate and it states that i was born at 215 wakefield road drighlington . anyone ?
