I recall a mention on a thread regarding the Blue Plaque on the wall of the Nelson Hotel,I think someone was going to have a word with the builders to see what was to happen with it.I passed the other day and it has been taken down.Hopefully to be put back when refurb has been done.

The Nelson has featured in a couple of pub-related threads, including one unto itself that drapesy began.ISTR that it was cardiarms who volunteered to speak to the builders about it. The Samuel Ledgard Society, of which I am a member, will be most concerned if the plaque has gone missing. It may well be that it's simply in safe keeping during the refurb. Blakey, who is one of the SLS elite, may know what the Society knows about it, but I'll alert the Secty, just to be on the safe side. Thanks for posting your alert.

There was that but in the YEP about 'keeping the heritage'. I've been down a couple of times but there's been no-one on site.

I'm happy to report that the Chairman of the Samuel Ledgard Society states that the blue plaque is in the possession of Leeds Civic Trust which intends to confer with the owners of the premises with a view to reinstatement once the refurbishment is complete. So hopefully the important link between the former Nelson Inn and its longest-serving licensee will be retained.
