All, I have nothing of any real consequence to report but just thought I'd relay some thoughts I had today.I went to the Leeds Utd game this afternoon and wandered back through Holbeck and into town via the Bulls Head and ultimately hitting The Vine for no other reason than it was opposite my bus stop. I sat down with a pint of cider, my poison of choice, and the place just seemed perfect in an odd kind of way. I almost imagined I was back in the 60s. A group of ladies were having a great time opposite me, an old boy was in the corner with his shopping and a bitter, no bother, and just a feeling of happyness. Maybe it was because it was snowy and dark outside and it felt like a retreat. Perhaps it was because of the soundtrack: Procol Harem, Fleetwood Mac,The Beatles, Supremes, The Kinks, Peter Sarsedt, Stones, The Animals, The Byrds were all playing out. Perhaps it was because it's central Leeds and I caught it on a day when it all just fitted together.Either way, as a 28-year-old lad who's uncle tells him all the time about how great Leeds used to be with all the town centre bars I got a real feel of just how great our city pubs must have been back in time. I've still got a smile on my face about it. I'm glad I had this moment. That's all really! Have a good evening all.

Going back 30 years or more when I went on a works do we always started in the Vine for the first one or two.Always plenty of characters and a good ambience.although it had a reputation of being a bit rough I never found this to be.

When I used to drink (not very often) at the Vine in the mid-seventies the jukebox bar was upstairs ... is it still the same?
