There is a story in tonights YEP that CAMRA are lobbying for the Garden Gate pub in Hunslet to be upgraded from a Grade II listed building to a Grade II* listing. Full article here: http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... jp"Coveted grade II* status is only given to iconic buildings, including the Cunard building in Liverpool, Middlesbrough transporter bridge and Battersea power station.Designed by W Mason Coggill of Stourton, the Garden Gate dates from 1902 and has a rare surviving brown ceramic frontage."It's a pub I've often heard of, but never been in. Is it worth a visit - whats the beer like? And perhaps equally importantly are the locals friendly?

It is worth a visit - as its as fantastic on the inside as well as the outside - the tap room bar has to be seen to be believed! I last went in about a year ago and had a decent pint of cask Tetleys's.Are the locals friendly? well, they werent UNfriendly - that,s all I can say.....

Went in a couple of weeks ago on Monday lunchtime. It was "Spot on". The beer was great and the couple at the bar were superb. But like I have said in previous posts it's in the wrong place. If anyone wants a gathering at the "Garden Gate" one lunchtime I will be more than eager to make "make one in"Forget your "Whitelocks etc" I think it's the best pub in the city IMO.Available Monday-Friday Lunches Michael(AKA grumpy OB)
