I'm sure I'm not the only beer lover in Leeds that has a great love of the choice, variety and sheer number of pubs in Otley. Many have been mentioned on these threads before - but I thought it might be nice to have them all in one place. Is Otley part of Leeds?? some might say not - but it has an LS postcode - and as far as I'm concerned thats good enough to be part of 'Secret Leeds' ( there are even place with WF or BD codes that I'd count - but that's another story. Its going to take a while to post it all so please bear with me.I'm sure they'll be lost pubs I'm unaware of , and comments and additions to make in due course

First problem - where do you draw the boundaries? I've decided, arbitrarily, to include Pool and Arthington and around that area - as I always think of these with Otley. The Wharfedale.Arthington.Formerly the Station Hotel.A nice large pub, thats always concentrated more on dining rather than drinking, I feel.

The Dyneley Arms Otley Road/Pool Bank. This Roadside pub stood empty for many years following a fire and it looked like it would not reopen. It did, surprisingly, but looks very different to its previous guise.

The Dyneley Arms sign. I may be mistaken but I think this is still the original sign from before the fire.

The White Hart.Main Street, Pool-in-WharfedaleInto Pool itself - The White Hart. I remember it being famous for Sunday Lunches at one time - still concentrates on food a great deal.A wonderful old building that looks like it was originally a row of cottages

The Hunter's Inn.Harrogate Road, LeathleyNorth of the Wharfe this a real ale lover's haven - although there's more of those in and around Otley than you can shake a stick at.Not an old pub, if I remember correctly it opened in the 1980s. Used to be a biker's pub - dont know if it still is.

The Roebuck /Spite 1 Roebuck Terrace, Newall-with- Clifton.Staying north of the river - the historic RoebuckThe reason for its nickname has been covered before on SL , so I dont propose to go into it again. When I first went to this pub in the early 1980s it had 2 names up - 'The Roebuck' and the 'Spite' nickname. Soon after this nickname became the 'official' name and Roebuck name was taken down - but the name lived on in the name of the Terrace and the adjacent Roebuck Lane.    Pub sadly closed 31/08/10 but reopened in 2012 reverting to the Roebuck name. (Directories: first found; Pigot 1841)

The Spite's amusing, though rather fanciful, sign. Removed before refurbishment in 2012.

The Traveller's Rest.Roebuck Terrace, Newall-with-Clifton.Remarkably there were once two almost adjacent pubs in this isolated location. This was the Traveller's Rest, (further up Roebuck Terrace from the Spite)which has been a private house for many years.I do not know if the pub comprised both of these cottages or just the part to the left , which has a door round the corner on the left (out of shot) and has the name 'Traveller's Rest Cottage' The Roebuck is listed in the Post Office directory for 1901, but not the Traveller's Rest - presumably it had already closed.
