Well, that one's gone for good - wife's car parked straight opposite in the Hospital carpark! (Home now though with aged Mum).I wonder if Sky might mention the skulls in return for the links.....?

Sky didn't. But the BBC did, but I may have replied too late for them to use it. However, Now Public did ask and they have used the other two pics I had of the pub (http://www.nowpublic.com/world/five-hur ... -explosion).

When was this then? I don't remember it from the early 70s

As I drove through Halton/Whitkirk on my way back to 'The land that time forgot' in the NE, I noticed that the Traveller's was all boarded up in Halton. I used to go in there with my father in the early 90's. Although I think it went downhill after that due to some rather unsavoury punters! Then to cap it all I got to the Brown Cow in Whitkirk and the lovely brickwork had been painted over and it was called The Brown Cow and Dragon, which I think was a restaurant, but I was driving past. The Woodman in Halton was still there but it looked a little shabby. I used to see Jack Charlton and Billy bremner in there 'training' hard on the John Smiths hand pulled and a packet of Bensons in c1968 and they used to have a great sing song on a Sunday with a lady playing the piano and as we said then "The oldies are singing along, lets push off to The Devon instead" Now of course I am one of the oldies!!The Irwin Arms has also gone in Halton and I think it is a Lidl? I used to go in there sometimes as well. It was always a rough and ready place and could always turn into a pint and a fight evening, but that was usually in the music room and the bar was OK. My father drank in there until he was in his 70's. The last time I was there with him he was with a friend who was an ex- paratrooper who I think dropped into Suez, another who was a pipe fitter and another one who had retired. Decent salts of the earth and I think a far cry to the sorts who got in there towards The Irwin's later days.If I do not stop now I could go on!.......
Born in East leeds, then lived in Halton and aged 20 moved to Tyneside

Another one bites the dust, unfortunately the Waggon & Horses,Elland Road,Holbeck closed it's doors for the final time on wednesday night. It was a pity that only about half a dozen people turned out for the final drink, although this place went downhill recently,in the same way as a few other Holbeck pubs it was at one time a great watering hole and will be sadly missed(especially by those on the way to see Leeds United).
