My great grandad fought with The Dukes in the First World War, and survived. I have his cap-badge. He was called up from the Reserve in 1914, in Leeds. Their main centre of recruitment was Halifax, but I believe their men were from all over the West Riding. Their motto is at the bottom of my posts. As previously mentioned in another thread, the WRCC pencils we had at school (Pudsey, pre-1974) were red with white printing, and had the Kerb Drill on them. The Izal toilet paper we were issued, had WRCC - NOW WASH YOUR HANDS printed on it.

Yes,and it should have also read:-"Now wash your lower back as this toilet paper is bound to have slipped out of your crack!"

When I was in the Army Cadets in the early/mid40's (ere we go!),I was in the 2nd (Cadet)battalionof the West Yorkshire Regiment based at BlenheimSchool. We used to have inter regimental competitionsfor football and boxing. Our main opponents seemedalways to be The Duke Of Wellington's Regt. We always called them 'The Dirty Dukes!' I think one of their companieswas based in Guiseley as I had a rival from 'The Dukes'for my current girl friend when we were at a party. I thinkhe won! He had a boxing trophy!Si an'cnosi! Instead of using Izal paper, couldn't youhave worked it out in 'Logs' with one of thoseWRCC pencils? Just a thought. lol!
