there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Undated pic of the Black Horse , but judging by the boys' clothing it would say early part of the 20th Century - so the pub would have been quite new

Top hats and horse drawn carriages a-plenty in this shot of Manor Square c 1890. The original Black Horse is on the corner and on the left the Blue Bell Hotel advertising 'Ilkley Brewery Co. Fine Ales'Possibly the Queen's Head further up Kirkgate past the Buttercross ???

Link To a Francis Frith pic of Kirkgate in 1953 showing the Red Lion and the Whitaker's Arms on the right and Queen's Head on the left.I've put a link rather than copy it due to copyright , that I think Frith's can be a bit keen on.http://www.francisfrith.com/search/engl ... O49003.htm

drapesy wrote: The Yeoman.Gay Lane This was called ' The Fountain' when I first went in (1980s)- and I believe it was previously called the Waterloo - no idea why the present name was chosen. There used to be some nice etched windows with the 'Fountain name on them - but they disappeared years ago. the former name lives on as the part of the pub to the left is called the 'Fountain Room'. (Another pub that has expanded into adjacent properties!)     One of the first pubs I ever went in.I think it was a Websters house during its days as The Fountain.
