I shall save the pub trade!!!!lol One pub that I think someone could make a go of would be the Dutton's on Queenswood Drive. Ok its an estate pub, but it was always one of the better ones. there's no other pub for miles around - even the Hark to Rover has now closed . I couldn't believe it when the Dutton's closed. Another with possible potential would be the Shoulder of Mutton on Potternewton Lane.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

I was in the Duck & Drake the Saturday before Christmas about 5-00 pm - it was quiet when we went in but in the hour we were in there it really filled up.

The D&D is close to my heart, but its certainly not a shade of its former self.Sunday afternoons with band and free food etc, good people, good days. Its what set it apart from other pubs and it attracted the sorts of drinker who wanted an almost rustic old and slightly shabby country Inn but in the city centre. The old clientele have moved on,same as the successive landlords. The Palace round the corner seems to have cleaned up the trade in this neck of the woods. It has everything really, good ales that are frequently rotated, good grub at reasonable prices until quite late in the evening, the best beer garden in town and it also caters for those people who want to drink coffee or even wine.Basically its covering all bases, and considering its decor and general appearance are now well beyond that of the D&D its all in all a more appealing place to drink.Very sad for the D&D,but times have changed, real ale drinkers are now from a broader spectrum of the poulace, infact with the advent of new micro breweries such as Leeds its becoming quite popular to drink real ales. However these new,and certainly welcomed real ale drinkers are not from the "Old Lad" pub back ground, quite the opposite.Hence the Brewery Tap pub on New Station Street, looks like a cafe but with top ale on sale, and very good food. The way of the future, probably, but lets not allow places such as the Palace to fall by the way side.As for the D&D type of city centre pub, well only time will tell.It will either have to move on with the times or fall by the wayside. Oh and the Whitelocks.Ive stopped even bothering with it.Sick of going in and finding no beer of note.Atmosphere has gone as well.If it improves will someone tell me.

I've heard on the Otley grapevine, that apparently the old building opposite the bus station that was the Curlew Cafe/Sugar Street Bistro (next door to where Brian pickles his lawnmowers,) is to possibly re-open as a bar catering for drinkers of real ale. Don't know what the landlord of the nearby Junction will think of that, but nice to hear of a new place opening for a change!

Yes, I was in Whitelocks on Friday. 6 ales on but most bog standard ones.At least they still have real ale though. The Palace certainly has a lot going for it and of course it attracts the custom of discerning members of Secret Leeds<LOL>!
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!
