In the 1980s a local history society in Horsforth published a number of booklets - one of which covered inns, taverns and public houses in Horsforth. I believe it was pretty exhaustive - and it makes no mention of a 'Plasterer's Arms'. The only 'Plasterer's Arms I'm aware of was on Skinner lane.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Thanks for looking drapesy. Not to worry,it was in the EP after all so there's every chance it could have been a printing error or just wildly inaccurate.

I noticed today that "the Traveller's" in Halton has the dreaded metal shutters on the windows. There's not much sign of life at the Engine in Hunslet either...

I live in Cookridge and Don Cole's super history booklets always show the "Halfway House" on otley old road. It appears on ordanance survey maps too. It's halfway between Leeds and Otley of course and if you go to the site, there's rough overgrown ground there and the only sign of a building is a old gate on older gateposts at the entrance. Why it went (probably in the 60's)?? Well I was amazed and delighted to see two pictures of it on Leodis and it's actually an old farmhouse that probably set up a bar!! In my time up here the Eyrie has taken over as the local, but it's always been one of those 60's box type pubs.Twould have been nice to have a pint of Landlord in and old farmhouse with low beams and roaring fire in decent walking distance....Still the Queens will do.....

The Alfred House pub(there is a picture of this pub on leodis) that was on camp road little london brings back some memories of my childhood, the Alfred House pub that was on Camp Road Little London where my mum and dad would drag us every weekend, kids weren't allowed in pubs so we had to sit in the corridor in bad weather or outside in summer.

Hi Parksider,Re pubs & RL players.Did Brian Shaw, Leeds captain in the early 60s have the Tommy Wass ?Bramley Kiwi fullback Jonny Wison early 60s, I think ran a pub in Kirkstall.Funny that rugby should be associated with beer.question--- Does the UK still have those idiotic pub opening hours where you just get the taste on and your kicked out ?CheersAndy

Brandy wrote: and the melbourne hotel a bit further up york road Thanks for those Brandy - Ive seen them on the national Tramway museum website - but are they ok copyright-wise about us using them? I want to reproduce a number of them and do some 'then and now pics' and have emailed them for permission but havent had a reply as yet.The Victoria on York Road, incidentally, is the original pub before the present building was built - which subsequently became'Trotter's' and is now a pet shop.

It makes sense when you think about it - the former player would usually have had lots of mates/acquaintances who will frequent the pub and also chances are that he can' look after himself' if trouble starts.Restricted pub opening hours are now a thing of the past - pubs can open all day if they want to, subject to application.
