My apologies if it has already been mentioned, but, the Woodman Inn at Churwell sadly closed its doors for the last time on bank holiday Monday. 183 years of history to be demolished to make way for a Starbucks coffee establishment.

My daughter mentioned that the Grey Horse was closed at the moment. Seems it's having an expensive makeover. http://openlylocal.com/planning_applica ... w-Horsfor-

All this coffee nonsense is the bane of my life. You cant even buy a sandwich in some places without someone holding up the queue because they want some triple latte skinny frothy concoction made.

I'll have a half double decaffeinated half-caf, with a twist of lemon.

The old Coburg (latterly Bar Red, and at various points Viva Cuba, Scruffy Murphy's et al) at the top of Clay Pit Lane has been shut for a while. Probably just awaiting its next reincarnation...

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
