I think you've missed four lost Otley pubs off your list, Drapesy. I don't know where they were, or when they shut, though. The George. The Wharfedale (not the one in Arthington.)The Wheatsheaf. The Staff Inn. I think the Queen's Arms you referred to was actually the Queen's Head.Don't know if it's true, but I heard that the Dyneley Arms burnt down because someone lit a real fire in a purely cosmetic fireplace. The flags cracked with the heat, and the fire fell into the cellar, causing the conflagration.AFAIK, the Hunter's is still a biker's pub. The main biker's pub is/was The Sun up at Norwood.I have a picture of the pre-1901 Black Horse somewhere. I'll try and find it. It was a much simpler building. The Melbourne Vaults changed it's name to simply The Vaults when it was taken over by Tetley's. The Bay Horse uses it's gents toilet facilities across the ginnel. The buildings to the left of your picture of the Yeoman were originally three cottages, and are older than the main part of the pub. The building to the left (out of shot) was a bar-house for the Leeds Road turnpike, opened c1840. Another still exists at the junction with Leeds Road and Old Pool Bank, by the bridge abutments. Across the road from the pub was a Co-Op and an orchard, hence Orchard House and Orchard Street. Nice to see Brian's chariot parked outside! He sets the questions for quiz night.

The Summercross, c1889. I'm told it gets it's name from a long-lost ford across the Wharfe nearby, which was only passable in the summer months, and used for driving livestock from north of the river to Otley market. The building has since gained a pair of ground-floor bay-windows.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Plaque outside the Bowling Green detailing its history ( had to shimmy over a wall to get this!) (The last line is incorrect)

Sign detailing the special opening hours that many Otley pubs once enjoyed - and the all-day drinking on Mondays and Fridays was especially attractive! The advent of 24 hour licensing has made these signs redundant of course - and I only know of 2 survivors. This one, outside the Red Lion and a simpler, more modern looking, one on the side of the Woolpack. [ note for newer Secret Leeds members who may not be aware - double clicking on the image will bring up a full size version which is much easier to read]

Another shot of the back of the Bay Horse - This is a Leodis pic from the 1970s (exact date unknown) when it was , rather bizarrely. painted dark blue. [ I'm loving that guy's yellow jacket and baggies!!!]
