I remember it well.Used to go there from 1990 up to about 96. I didn't know there was a carpet until they took it up ! I thought it was just a sticky floor. Great music like you say I never realised it was called 'Scrumpies'.We used to go on a Friday night(late70's,early 80's) during my headbanging days. There was asign above the door saying 'Central'so we referred to it as the central disco. The place was an absolute dump but the music bril.It wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes today with 'ealth and safety. The toilets defied description! God yes the toilets. You used to get tide marks on your boots lol

Anyone remember the Heaven and Hell nightclub (not the recent one) that was near the bottom of Eastgate? So called because it was on 2 levels. And what about the Brahms and Liszt? Anyone remember that, long tables and German beers? I sort of remember it being underground on maybe East Parade.(BTW The Newlands was my local until it burned down. We just made it look bad to keep the students out )

No, Bistro 5 was originally underneath Laura Ashley / Country Casuals on Lands Lane then moved to where the Observatory was (now Flares). Anyone remember how far you had to walk to get to the loo in the Observatory we used to joke they were actually shared with the Scarborough Taps.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

I’m a Scrumpies veteran too. Saturday afternoons in the 80s were 50p to get in. In return you got a token (a washer if I remember rightly) which you handed to the barman and got 50p off your first bottle of Newcy Brown. It seems strange now that last orders were at 3pm. When it was the ‘Monsters of Rock’ festival at Donington, they would offer a free drink for the first person back into town with that year’s T-shirt after it finished. It was usually someone who arrived at about 11.15, having blasted back up the M1 on a 900cc bike or something. And a bloke called Giovanni who used to play the Old Grey Whistle Test theme on a harmonica (I still see him around the market sometimes). I remember seeing the Macc Lads there, and also Zodiac Mindwarp. Scrumpies and the Frog and Toad in Bradford, with me perm, bullet belt and Twisted Sister T-shirt. Those were the days…
