The Wharfedale.ArthingtonA nice large pub, thats always concentrated more on dining rather than drinking, I feel.     They must have a very good chef at the Wharfedale Drapesy, because the food is really beautifully cooked and presented - not particularly cheap, but very reasonable indeed.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

P.S.I'm much indebted to posts put up by Si, particularly on the 'Lost pubs' thread. (particularly for Melbourne Vaults, Leeds House, Queen's Head and Cock and Bottle- which I was previously unaware of.)if you read this Si - any thoughts/ input/corrections would be more than welcome.

I don't have much time at the moment, but will gladly add what I know about each pub in good time, Drapesy!PS I thought for a minute that you were outside the Yeoman this dinnertime, taking photos, but it turned out to be a bloke from some "good pub" website.PPS If you're covering Otley's outlying pubs, what about The Chevin? There's a story-and-a-half there!!!

Bay Horse Court, Otley, c1930.Here's a nice comparison to Drapesy's earlier shot. The sign isn't on the pub itself, which is in the distant murk!As mentioned before, the Bay Horse and the Melbourne Vaults next door had opposing doors in the ginnel between them, making for a very short walk between pubs! Like the Black Bull, you step down through the front door of the Bay Horse. This is one of my favourite pubs in Otley and usually the best pint of Tetley's in town, IMHO.

Re the Bowling Green's bowling green. I don't know where it was either! The Remembrance Gardens next door was originally the site of Grove House, a large old building. After it's demolition, the site became a British Restaurant during the war, before becoming the garden - home to replicas of ancient Christian crosses found in the parish church.

And the Bowling Green and British Restaurant. Their bully-beef and carrots must have been excellent, judging by the size of the queue! Computer's playing silly buggers. I'll try again.

There you go. Nissen-huts were the usual style of architecture for these establishments. I don't think they did an Italiano skinny mocha latte, though...
