Where did you dig that out from online jancee? It's in the Barrie Pepper book too! Is there any pics with the story?

Hi folks - i've been away awhile and so have missed the recent posts on this thread. as someone who remembers the Roscoe and even the Golden cross (though only from the outside - it had gone by the time I was old enough to go in pubs (15/16???)) I can say that the last posts of Phill and Jancee are spot on - The Roscoe was opposite the Chapeltown Road side of the Sheepscar library and a post office that was adjacent to the Library. The Golden cross was right at the top of North Street - on the adjacent corner to the old Midland bank building which survives. Like the Roscoe the actual land where the Golden cross stood is now a carriageway. As for the Pointer, Jancee, would you believe it's still there and still a pub??? - I''ve got a pic which I'll post on the pubs worth celebrating thread.I fear that the Roscoe plaque has been swiped many years ago.

Excellent work there JanCee. In that case I must have been right in thinking that the pub was where I first though. On the last photo Jan has posted the triangle building is now in the little section of north of Greenwich House where minorplanet is based now. I was sure that was where I saw the plaque last time as I was so surprised to see it. When I was speaking to my grandpa earlier tonight he mentioned Tunicks, which he said was in this very spot, so seeing as on the first photo on the thread the Roscoe is next door it must be here!On JanCees other photo (also a great one) and Phils aerial shot you can see what I meant about the trianlular peice of land where the plaque is. All I can say is, is this was where I saw it and it must have been nicked! The Golden Cross from what I can gather, if you look again on the aerial photo, is almost opposite where Phil has done the white "circle", and diagonally opposite the Midland Bank (which is still there)Also the Pointer is still there, just on Sheepscar Street South as you turn left from Roundhay Road. In conclusion then. It must have been nicked by some robbing little b*gger! Can't leave anything unattended and in the open these days!

I'm still gonna have a god old search for the plaque Drapsey. it was deffo there in 1993 as that was the 10th anniversary it closed! We'll solve the mystery. Someone out there knows where it is!! Aftere all they tracked down the big clock from St Pancras station after all those years to a farm yard!
