I can remember sitting outside the Cockersdale on a warm summer eve in the late 60's, and the smell from a piggery nearby was appalling! I dont think I've been back since!

According to the 'Dalesman Yorkshire Millennium Fact Book' (reprinted in 2000) it states "Yorkshire has around 3,600 inns, more than any other county in England". In view of the pub closures in Leeds alone I would guess that total is much lower now!

Nice to see the Bay Horse just off Balm Road is back open as The New Bay Horse having been closed for a while now, a few questions though I would like answering:1- When did the Oakwood close?2- When did the Belle Isle close?3- When did the Brunswick in Morley close, I seem to remember it was still open a few years ago?4- and finally when did the Craven Gate and the British Queen close? The Imperial having been closed is now fully boarded up and the Cross Green is strangely boarded up with sort of curtians!!!

Morley Pubs:The Brunswick closed in (I think) 2006 at the height of the mania for converting buildings into flats. The Sycamore, closed this year and I believe it's going to be converted into residential use.The White Horse will re-open as a restaurant - Casa Rossa are moving there from Queen Street. The Albion (a former Ramsdens House) is beyond redemption - its roof has gone, it's an eyesore. The Rock which not that long since was a thriving pub serving Taylors Landlord and meals has been boarded up since last Christmas. What I don't get and I know I've said it before is why we can't have a Wetherspoons. If the people of Lymington are too posh to have one - we in Morley aren't.

Went in a Weatherspoons in Brighton 3 weeks ago and they had Ruddles Bitter on draught at £1.69. As flat as the poverbial and not a sparkler on the pumps to be seen! Even the Guiness was flat! Dont know how they managed that!

Anyone know if the Wheatsheaf on the Ringroad/Gelderd road junction is going to open again - it's being refurbished at the moment - maybe a new thread - "Pubs that have opened in our time"!http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc ... 18,,0,3.43
