Last I knew it was still a second hand, or maybe new furniture shop.Sad sight in a way , standing all alone with only the viaduct to keep it company. I agree. Lived very near to it as a youngster so I feel a part of the place as mad as it sounds. Had my first Southern Comfort in there..and another..and another (hick!). As you said before, Happy Days

The Malt Shovel has always had the air of "too big and impersonal" in the fifty odd years I've known it. This is a real shame because its a lovely building and, had the timescale of availability been different, I daresay Wetherspoons would have much preferred it to the Bowling Green in Otley, and they would have made a lovely job of giving it "period atmosphere" - IMHO The Bowling Green is one of their worst ever pubs and it took them around four years to "get on wi't job."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Drop Inn Guiseley by drapesy1, on Flickr Hi Drapesy, they don't mess about! Not a building of historical importance but it was built to replace the original "drop" which probably would have been by today's standards. It used to be a very busy pub '70s/'80s but went down the pan like so many others. Surpised to see those barrels still there on your pic!

A little bit tatty and not great for beer but a friendly enough place. Used to do a good music quiz on Sundays, might still do. Might have lost a fair few customers to the Abbey though.

I haven't been in The Horsforth for a couple of years now. It always used to be on the Sunday night rota when I lived and worked in Horsforth. The landlord always kept a good pint. It was known by all and sundry as The Friendly and the nickname was well deserved.Nice to hear that it's managing to survive.JD
