It looks a nice building, and it would be a shame to loose that one. I'm pretty sure Phill that its been closed a heck of a lot longer than 2005. I joined South Yorkshire buses (later Arriva) at Pontefract in November 1987 and retired in May 2001. Naturally we drove past it very frequently on our way up Crown Point Road and I think I would "risk a shilling" on it being closed even in 1987. If this is not the case - would be fascinating to find out - it was certainly long closed by 2001. Oh blimey. I hadn't realised it was closed as long as that. If what you say is correct, then without a doubt that's the longest closed pub in Leeds, and quite possible the U.K. It would be good to find out for sure the closing dates. I've found a photo of it in 1999. It looks to be still open then. http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... FULLCheers Blakey

It looks a nice building, and it would be a shame to loose that one. With the planned redevelopment of the area, following the demolition of YCL (and the imminent departure of Tetleys...), it would make an ideal addition to the Leeds Brewery stable, don't you think?Within walking distance of 4 of their other pubs and the site is soon to be slap bang in the middle of a new residential development. They could do great things with it, like they did with the Midnight Bell. Then they just need to buy The Mulberry and it makes it walking distance to the Garden Gate!

That sounds a great idea Ravey, and a pub crawl to equal the legendary Fisherman's Hut, Black Dog and Waterloo Jolly

FULLCheers Blakey Oh dear Phill - it looks as if I've been way out there then - as you say, it certainly appears open in 1999, and if that's the case then perhaps it closed and was boarded up around 2000.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The Golden Lion in Armley has been closed a heck of a long time too, not sure whether longer than the Crown though.the spotted cow in holbeck must be contender tooon an unrelated note, The 'Bracken Fox' in Scarcroft has had a refurb and reverted to its original (and better i think) name of the 'New Inn'
