It's in this weeks Wharfedale Observer that work is to start this month on the Bowling Green pub and it's due to open in March. Don't hold yer breath! The wire fence round the Bowling Green has been replaced by a big chipboard surround, so is work starting or is it just to give that appearance? It's a graffiti artist's(and I use that term loosely!!!)dream come true! Work has started on The Bowling Green - at last! Scaffolding has appeared around it, and there are skips full of rubbish behind the pleasing-to-the-eye chipboard fence. No graffiti - yet!

There wasn't much sign of life at the Traveller's at Stanningley on sunday night. The Highland has been shut for months, but I see the dreaded shutters have gone up - this is a real shame the Highland, along with the Albion and City of Mabgate were real 'gems' amongst Leeds pubs I always thought.

Hello all, Does anyone know what happened to the Regent St Hotel cnr Skinner Lane and Regent Street ? I lived there when I was a young un, the brewery was next door I think.I do remember there was a fire on the 3rd floor possibly 1960-61, as I was rescued by a fireman [thrown over his shoulder and down the ladder we went], alls well that ends well, I'm still kicking I took photos in 1992 when I was visiting rellys, but not been back home since and can't find it doing a search. On the other side of Skinner Lane there was a culvert of sorts [maybe a canal] 'cos I wasnt allowed to play there supposedly !Just a bit off topic, Is Lovell Rd school still there top of Skinner Lane over road with lolly pop lady, sweet shop on corner and go a bit further up that road and there was the school ?Also is the cinema still inside the entrance to the Train Staition, [News Theatre ]?Love all your threads , wish I was a bit closer to explore everything.yorkshire lass.

The Regent's still there (the sign outside now calls it "Maguires at the Regent" whatever that's supposed to mean) - but not much else that you mention

Maguires indicates it is an Irish themed pub (probably a chain). Its also home to "Wim the Tim" the Leeds branch of CSC

Its also home to "Wim the Tim" the Leeds branch of CSC Well thats the silly thing really - you see the Regent is , and has been for many years, an Irish pub - not an Irish themed pub - if you know what i mean.It loks like the Woodlands in Rothwell is closed again. Anyone know if the Royal Oak on Kirkgate is open again?
