Thursday night was fish-n-chips night, used to go to Arthur Cooper's (on the Ring Road, IIRC) with my dad for his weekly rum fix, then on to the Hopewell offy for his daily Guinness fix before the chippy virtually next door. Side dish was always scraps, mushy peas, curry sauce, dandelion and burdock - a veritable feast.Read last year that the Miggy Arms was shutting, did it happen? Here's the Hopewell offy and chippie from the Old Old Wish thread, BigVern.

Uncle Mick is right Si - it's Hopewell View (Lord knows why, there wasn't a view that I remember) in Miggy, Hopewell Terrace in Hunslet. IIRC, the chippy and offy were in the middle of a terrace row. I saw that picture before and wondered why it didn't ring any bells. The only other thing I remember re Hopewell View was the Methodist church - pretty sure that's right?

I am 99 per cent sure that picture was not taken at Middleton.I will stand corrected if I am wrong. There was not a Glasshouse Street in Middleton, though there is a Glasshouse View halfway down Middleton Park Avenue. I am Middleton born, and like I say I could be wrong (but hope not)                 Michael

Sorry, lads. I assumed they were one and the same, with the chippie next door and everything. You spend ages trying to find one Hopewell, then two turn up at once!

Either in here or the lost nightclubs threads we've mentioned the Duchess of York but blessed 'search' isn't helping me any!!!Anywho's I know this was included soyou might like to have a look at this from our friendly YEPPlaque call for legendary Leeds music « Previous « PreviousNext » Next »View GalleryPublished Date: 04 January 2010 By A FRESH call has been made for the legendary Duchess of York concert venue to be recognised for its part in the cultural history of Leeds.Community activist and music lover Paul Cockroft wants a commemorative plaque to be placed at the pub's old home on Vicar Lane in the city centre. He launched his bid to get the Duchess a plaque a year ago, with a campaign group on social networkwebsite Facebook quickly attracting hundreds of members.Paul originally hoped to persuade the Leeds Civic Trust heritage watchdog to mark the much-missed venue's former location with one of its famous blue plaques. The trust recently decided, however, that the Duchess did not meet its criteria for plaque recipients. But Paul is now going it alone and hopes the 1,000-plus members of the Facebook campaign group will help him raise the £500 or so he estimates a plaque would cost.First, though, he is making contact with the current owners of the Duchess site to see if they would allow a plaque to be put in place.Paul, 43, from Tingley, Leeds, said: "I'm confident getting the money together wouldn't be too much of a problem."So many people have good memories of the place – with a bit of luck, lots of them would be happy to chip in."The Duchess played host to some of rock 'n' roll's best known acts in their formative years, including Oasis, Nirvana, Pulp, The Verve, Supergrass and Radiohead. It closed in 2000 and the site is now occupied by designer clothes store Hugo Boss. For more details on the campaign group, enter the words 'blue plaque duchess' into Facebook's search engine.Leeds Civic Trust has put up more than 100 of its plaques since the 1980s, each one celebrating an important figure, organisation, event or building from the city's past.

Mind's gone blank, what was it before being called the Duchess, pub with no name for a while but can't for the life of me remember the previous. Too much Newcastle brown.

It was "The Marquee" for a while until "The Marquee" in London objected.
