The banner on the railings outside the Bowling Green was indeed still there during the Victorian Fayre last night, and it was attracting quite a lot of attention!!!People I overheard had a lot of sympathy for what it said, it actually was asking people to write to Wetherspoons to complain and had their headquarters address on it!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

There was an interview on Radio Leeds with a chap from CAMRA today. Apparently Wetherspoons still plan to re-open it but "a lot of money is needed to carry out the required work" and it was implied it might be a year or two yet.It will be on the "listen again" function on the Radio Leeds website - it was at about 4.20pm.

Drove past the Nelson on Armley Rd today and all the wooden boards have been removed.Although not a brilliant pub like it used to be 30 odd years agobut at least it might be opening again.

This is an encouraging sign if nothing else - especially interesting to those of us with Samuel Ledgard connections as it was of course his pub right up to his death in the upstairs quarters in April 1952. The blue heritage plaque remains outside the pub.Can anyone please say with any accuracy what date the Nelson closed on its recent demise - I would say about a couple of years ago ??

Catweazle said back on page 53 "Nelson in Armley has got the "To Let" signs up and was ominously shut the other (weekend) evening when I drove past". and the message was posted on the 18-12-08.
