Hi Si,     i have a copy of the 1891 census. On the page with the reference number 12/3673 it list, The Oak Inn on Leeds and Bradford Road having a Inn Keeper called Elizabeth Hartley or Hadley. From the map the Horse and Jockey looks to be near the Acorn

That's right. On the 1890 OS map, the Horse and Jockey was just east of the Acorn, on the same side of the road, near what is now the junction of Eric Street.

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

The Haddon hall now closed and boarded up - I remember when this was a great music pub - and it had hand-pulled tetley's at that time. The Melbourne windows I photographed and put on page 2 of the 'Melbourne Brewery signs' thread were replaced, and smashed I assume, for some reason about a year ago - the wonderful tourquoise mosaic floor [shown on page 5 of that thread] is, I hope , still there[http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... essage=100] - wonder if it will survive?

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Those engaged in the discussion of the Clarendon Hotel and the Victoria on Water Lane a few pages back, may be interested in the photos on the Flickr account of Mikeyashworth, particularly his set on Old Yorkshire and Co Durham Pubs. His shot of the Victoria Inn on Water Lane is at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36844288@N ... 853401/His set also includes a number of other Leeds pubs, as well as some from surrounding areas.
