lol. WHO'S THE SERGEANT WITH THE MUSCLES? Sgt. Windridge, good man. The real Windridge was actually quite an interesting, colourful and ultimately tragic character. Try this link for more info.http://www.genealogyworld.net/azwar/win ... Cheers,Han. good reading is that!

Armley has been decimated pub wise- and the loss of any pub, even one that you might not go in, diminishes choice and has a negative impact on the area as a whole- as does a closed and shuttered business , whether pub shop or whatever. Armley was decimated a long time ago old pal.Even the charity shops are closingAnother Pawn shop opensCheap shop closes down.Blockbusters moves outSmallest Post Office in Leeds(possibly)No Designated Car park8 of Cafe/ Pizza/ Chinese/Fish shop all within about 400 yards of each other3 BookiesBut you know what has put the final nail in,this council regeneratingan area too far gone to be resurrectedcos one thing is certain this council can't do owt right.Look at Crossgates Roundabout. Aye, it's only Armley after all eh and who cares if it doesn't get any money put into the area!!!!! Name the last tiny bit of improvement in the Armley area over the last 20 years????? Fact is, the armley ward has been over looked consistently for years now and when the council do finally get around to putting money into the place idiots cry its a waste of time and effort!! The Malt Shovel and the white horse are great pubs, well the horse is. The shovel is a decent enough gaff. Just up the road is the Trav's. Thing is I think the Royal has been in decline for years now, along with pubs all over the country. Armley has been long forgotten and at least the people of Armley have had masive consultation over it's regen and I for one am bleeding glad it's finally happening.

Could do with a thread on Armley Simon. The Regeneration consists of Tarting up Properties on Branch RdWhich I would have thought were private.About 8 or 9 months ago in the LCC vacancies there were over 20 jobs advertised(lowest salary approx £30.000) for staff who would be set on purely for this Scheme and would be kept on when it was finished.A nice chunk of the Money allocated. As I have already stated There are NO parking facilities NO decent shops NO Shoe shop NO proper Bakery No Butchers (unless you walk up to Skeltons) After six o'clock it's like a ghost town(everything shuttered)only Druggies, drunks and foreigners hanging about .It was never like it is now even the two CCTV's don't put villains or drunks off because they are sighted wrongly. As for Xmas a couple of Hundred £'s worth of Decorations, and shops full of TAT.Like I said Too Little Too Late A lost cause if you ask me,but don't worry if they need more money they can always shut another Day Centre (there one on Chapel Lane)100 yards from Town Street.

As a resident of East Leeds, I'd like to offer the residents of Armley some shiney, barely used gates. No-one here wants them and if you can come and collect them, they're yours.
