There are plenty of other threads or start a new one if you like. I didnt know that you were the human filter for this forum . Oh thanks very much for that, charming.Let's see - you've been posting on Secret Leeds, figuratively speaking' for 10 minutes but you think its acceptable to mess up threads and make smart-*rse comments to people you know nothing about? With the greatest respect please grow-up; respect the very few 'ground rules'/etiquettes we have developed over time or, failing that, find another site more suited to your requirements.

At last some good news to report!Work has started on The Fleece, Westgate, which had been closed for many months. Rumour in town is that Wharfebank Brewery may have a foothold there. Also work progressing on The Black Horse (serious numbers of builders in there) and The Shoes.Prhaps least expected is the owner of Korks has bought The Spite off Enterprise. Slightly more foodish theme perhaps but it will return to being a pub. Very handy for those evening walks. Now all we want is the Summercross and Fountain back!

Both the Fleece and the Black Horse have workmen in at the mo'.The Bay Horse is missing it's sign, like the Whitaker's.And I found this old photo of the Waterloo/Fountain/Yeoman. It was taken in 1898, and was dressed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Otley Show. The building these days sports the shutters of doom, and there's a sign that says "To Let." Vernon took down the sign of the Bay Horse to fit the smoking canopy - which was subsequently removed at the planners' demands. The sign is still laid round the back under the arch of the toilet block. Pity. The Whitakers sign just fell off and smashed (it was glass). The Shoes has been re-named The Horse & Farrrier (new signs).Massive works to fit the decking down to the riverside at The Fleece.Looks like it could be a good summer for pubs in this town!

Hurrah! Is it Wharfebank Brewery that's doing up the Fleece? If so, it's very apt. The Fleece is the only pub in Otley with access to the bank of the river Wharfe.

The shutters of doom on the Yeoman have been painted a fetching yellow/gold colour, and a wrought iron gate has been fixed across the main doorway. Even though the signs in the windows said "this pub is temporarily closed," it's looking more and more permanent by the day.

Yes, The Fleece is a partnership with Punch and Wharfebank. There will be food seved in the main area but the tap room will be drinks only and will act as Wharfebank's brewery tap. As you say, it couldn't be a more apt pub for them. Opening in approx 2 weeks. Remember when there was a landing stage down there and they used to run boat trips from Wharfemeadows? Most of the interior of the tap room will be retained, including the bench seating and that lovely old Tetley's clock over the bar.Meanwhile the Horse & Farrier (Shoes) is expected to open in April in time for Easter. The layout will remain basically the same but the decor will be much improved in MTT style. Also be a big function room upstairs and a large beer garden to the rear (hence the recent demolition of the two lean-to garages). 8 handpumps!Tates have been asked to state their intentions with the Fountain (Yeoman) but so far have not done so. Can't see it ever returning to be a pub though, which is a pity.To finish on a positive, work has started on The Spite.
