Passed the Prince of Wales in Leeds (is that Swinegate?) twice at the weekend at it was shut both times. Doesn't look good given it's recent history.I met friends in the Scabby Taps on Saturday lunchtime and the POW was to be our next port of call, but as it was closed we went to The Hop on Granary Wharf instead (it's well worth a visit)

I'm quite a fan myself, but each to their own. They did have a couple of more traditional beers on - one of my drinking companions is a fan of the darker type ales and proclaimed the 'Maypole' as blooming excellent".Mind you, we went on to the Midnight Bell, then The Grove before finishing up at The Adelphi.

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Its on Water Lane in the "Holbeck Village" redevelopment and in the shaddow of Bridgewater place. Its one of the 3 bars owned by Leeds Brewery and is the one most like a pub. Also nearby is the Cross Keys and not much further afield the Grove and the recently opened Hop (owned by Ossett Brewery). Which makes the area a Real Ale drinkers paradise. You could have a pub crawl Blakey and its handy for the number 1 back up to Headingley.

Round armley the new inn on tong road has closed and is becoming a house, the white lion on tong round is been turned in to a house and flats in the car park, the royal on town street is closed, the barley corn on town street is closed, the crown on tong road is closed, and a few other pubs round the area are struggling for business
